Yondr Phone Pouch Saves the Show
I’m a big live-in-the-moment kind of gal, and one of my biggest pet peeves is getting some assistance from a company named Yondr.
I hate going to a concert and seeing people watch through the tiny screen of their phone or—worse, in my opinion—through their tablet. As a society, we’ve become overly dependent on our phones. We feel the need to report everything we do through our social media accounts for everyone to see, as though we need to prove a point.
Yeah, we went to a concert. We’re there now. That’s right. We’re cool.
That’s why I absolutely love this new product by Yondr.
Lights Out for Smartphones
The Yondr neoprene pouch is being used by comedians, schools, and even by families at home, at parties, and even at weddings. The company’s slogan is “be here now,” and their product speaks to that. Yeah, product singular. The smartphone pouch is all they make.
They are dedicated to their movement. Their mission states:
“Smartphones have fundamentally changed how we live. How to integrate them into our lives as a useful tool, rather than a compulsive habit, is a question that needs an answer.
We think smartphones have incredible utility, but not in every setting. In some situations, they have become a distraction and a crutch—cutting people off from each other and their immediate surroundings.
Yondr has a simple purpose: to show people how powerful a moment can be when we aren’t focused on documenting or broadcasting it.” –overyondr.com
That’s just beautiful.
There’s no need to be worried, though. You get to keep your phone on you. It’s just locked away to eliminate distractions and enable you to really enjoy the show. Or soak in your teacher’s lecture.
A lot of artists are getting fed up with people recording their shows. Remember when Adele confronted a fan in the audience of her show?
This product is pretty genius if you ask me. Yondr takes the anxiety out of the matter by letting you physically keep your phone on you, but artists are able to keep their shows offline and really connect with their audience.
And, for anyone really worried about all of this, there are “Phone Access Zones” at shows. If there’s an emergency, you can leave the “Phone-Free Zone” and enter the “Phone Access Zone” where an employee will unlock the pouch for you, then relock it before you enter back into the show.
It’s a win-win for everyone involved. Trust me—life is much better when you aren’t viewing it through your 4-to-5” screen.
You said, neoprene… right?
Ah, I did—you noticed! If you’ve read a few of our posts before—specifically this one about neoprene wetsuits— you know what I’m about to say.
Neoprene is a synthetic rubber (oftentimes a petroleum derivative) and holds up well in a wide range of temperatures—never losing its flexibility. It’s the stuff that makes up laptop sleeves, which is really similar to the makeup and feel of the Yondr cases.
This material is resistant water, oil, heat, and more. So, it is a surprise that it’s everywhere? It’s more than likely that some of your favorite items—including gloves and those handy laptop cases—are made from neoprene.
Now, it’s here to help you live a more present life.
